One
Sunday in late July, seven of us went for a little ride just outside
a little place called Pemberton, to a little lake called Tenquille,
which was to end with a little descent. Here is our story in pictures...warning...this
could take a while to load.
Left
to right: Brian, LeeL, brodiegrrl, Lance and Dimitri…missing is
Norm, must’ve been just out of range…sorry Norm, and me...taking
the picture. Just beginning the climb, after shuttling partway.
Only another 2000 feet or so more to climb.

Lance
grinding his way up the doubletrack. What you can’t see are the
bugs that tormented us.

Turn
around and there’s Sharon. Climb, Sharon, climb! Crappy views in
the background in these last two pictures, eh?

What’s
Lee doing? Swatting at bugs? The Twist? Trying not to fall over?
Only Lee knows for sure.

Lee
again with more of that pesky scenery in the background.

Dimitri
being swallowed up by vegetation on the singletrack climb. Not sure
if he’s pushing, or riding….we did a lot of both.

Lance
crossing the creek, with Brian in the background, Dimitri lurking
behind a tree, and hey, there’s Norm a little farther down the trail.
We took advantage of the cooler air near the creek, not to mention
the cold water. After a snack break and a brief respite from the
heat, we continued climbing.

More
of that d@mned scenery getting in the way.

Sharon
and Lee emerging from the forest into a nice little meadow.

A
little further up the climb, we have a nice view of the Lilloet
river in the valley floor. That’s were our descent will deposit
us…but first we have some more climbing to do.

Turning
around 180 degrees from that last picture, you see this.

Lance
making his way up the climb.

Finally
we hit Tenquille Lake, definitely worth the effort to get up here.

Another
view of the lake and more mountains in the distance.

Cabin
at the lake. Spoiled by people leaving their crap around.

Beginning
the descent from the Lake. You can see Dimitri…that little red dot…in
the lower right of the picture, with a ribbon of singletrack disappearing
in front of him. Somehow we managed to take a wrong turn…did anybody
see the junction?…and had to do some more hike-a-bike to get back
on track.

Partway
down you emerge from the trees and cross this. Look up to your left
and you see some more of that darned scenery.

A
little farther down and we had to stop to look at the view, and
take a picture. We’re getting closer to the bottom…wish it didn’t
have to end.

The
sign at the bottom of the trail. It says Elevation Gain…or loss
in our case…1463m. That’s about 4800 feet.

This
post wouldn’t be complete without the bikes on roof casting a shadow
picture. I call it "Shadows: a VPS1, a Stinky and an Element on
a Civic".
